I Weep for the Forest, Mixed Media painting by Chris Marshall, Perth WA
This painting started with some markmaking in a landscape format and, although I worked on it from all 4 directions I was expecting it to stay that way round. But ...late one night I was sitting on the floor really staring at it and it was this way up. As I stared this small circle appeared in the bottom left corner and slowly it grew and grew and grew and clearly insisted on being a large, green sad face called "I Weep for the Forest" so it was my job to make that happen. It was an absolutely mindblowing moment which I have never forgotten

Sculpted by Nature - Tidal Movements, mixed media painting by Chris Marshall
This painting was inspired by the wonderful rock formations of the North West of Western Australia. The coloured stripes, the strength and solidity of the rock itself transformed into organic shapes by the forces of nature - time, tide, weather .... this represents the concept of nature being a sculptor, the sheer power of water rushing through every gap it can find in the rocks recarving the shapes twice a day at high tide.
